How Osteopathy Helped Ease Chronic Migraines – A Real Patient Story

For many people, migraines are more than just a bad headache. They’re debilitating — affecting work, relationships, and overall quality of life. While every person’s experience is different, we often hear similar stories at our osteopathy clinic in Brighton & Hove: people who’ve “tried everything” and are looking for a more holistic approach.

This was exactly the case for one woman who came to see Lene, one of our experienced osteopaths. She had been suffering from migraines and tension headaches for over 20 years, often spending days in bed each month, unable to function. Conventional medications helped a little, but the side effects were difficult to manage. She wanted to understand whether her body and lifestyle could be contributing to the problem — and if so, whether anything could be done.

A Whole-Body Approach to Migraine Relief

Osteopathy doesn’t treat migraines directly, but it can play a significant role in helping the body move and function more efficiently. With this patient, Lene focused on areas that were contributing to physical strain — including the neck, jaw, upper back, and shoulders. She also explored how posture, breathing habits, and long-term stress might be influencing her symptoms.

With gentle, hands-on treatment and some personalised advice, the patient began to feel small but meaningful shifts. Her migraines became less frequent and shorter in duration. Over time, she felt better equipped to manage her condition — and more in control of her life.

“I was amazed at how such subtle work could make such a big difference,” she said. “The migraines haven’t gone away completely, but I have more good days now — and that’s something I haven’t been able to say for years.”

Why Choose Osteopathy for Headaches and Migraines?

If you experience chronic headaches or migraines, you might benefit from seeing an osteopath — especially if muscle tension, posture, jaw issues, or stress seem to play a role.

At our clinic in Brighton & Hove, Lene and the team take time to understand your whole story — not just your symptoms. Treatment is tailored to your body and your needs, and may include soft tissue work, gentle joint mobilisation, lifestyle guidance, or exercise advice.

We know there’s no one-size-fits-all solution to migraines. But we also know that the right support can make a real difference.
